Destabilising Perceptions of Embroidery

My research has taken me on a visual journey to develop and redefine embroidered textiles into a dynamic contemporary art form. I wish to create new frontiers, using discarded and unusual materials collected from everyday life. Through photography I am able to break the boundaries of ‘stitch’ by divorcing the image from its very nature (textile) and origin. This has allows me to discover the complexity of human analytical and creative thought processes. With these discoveries I have recently moved into interactive displays. These aim to stimulate the way in which we perceive an object and understanding it, which ultimately leads to the viewers perceptions of embroidery being challenged.
